The Washington Post revealed repeated hints by US President Donald Trump about the possibility of running for a third term, in an explicit challenge to the American constitution that prohibits this.
The Washington Post identified new features of Trump’s directions that he described as authoritarianism during a ceremony held at the White House on the occasion of the month of black history, as the president cut his speech to ask the attendees directly whether he had to run again, in an implicit reference to a third term.
According to the newspaper: When Trump’s question was met with the chants of “another four years”, he interacted with the situation with a laugh and a reference to the public, commenting on sarcastically: Here is the subject of the new controversy.
Trump describes himself as the king
Trump posted on social media more controversial statements, as he described himself as the king, and he quoted an anxious phrase attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte saying: “He who saves his country does not violate any law.”
In an unprecedented step, the White House posted a picture of the president wearing a crown, in a flagrant challenge to American democratic traditions.
According to the American newspaper, the current practices of the Trump administration are increasingly exceeding the limits of the usual presidential authority, as the American government efficiency “DOGE” sparked a wave of concern in the corridors of federal agencies due to large -scale measures, often violating federal law.
The newspaper pointed out that the idea of the third term, despite its explicit violation of the twenty -second amendment of the American constitution, received support from some of Trump supporters, while others reject it even from within his camp.
