The Capital Secretariat Council agreed during its session yesterday, Wednesday, that there is no need to grow palm trees in the new projects of the municipality, and to replace the palm trees with rose trees of all kinds. This came during a presentation on the afforestation and beauty plan made by a general engineer in the capital’s secretariat, Fatima Al -Sheikh. A member of the Capital Secretariat, Maitham Al -Hayki, pointed out that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is going to stop the palm cultivation completely. And that the palm trees need a greater financial cost, effort and more time, and it needs to be followed up and carefully carefully, as it does not provide a shadow to people, stressing that its shape is beautiful, but its location must be in farms, not the streets and new projects. He stressed the importance of stopping the cultivation of palm trees and the direction to grow desert natural trees that do not need care by watering water except the first two or three years, and after that you do not need water. The Vice -President of the Capital Secretariat, Dr. Kholoud Al -Qattan, agreed with the importance of going to the cultivation of trees instead of palm trees, indicating that palm cultivation istes time and high cost, as it is assumed that rose trees are being cultivated as they give more aesthetic at a lower cost. It indicates that the absence of palm trees from the afforestation index is part of the absence of identity, suggested that the palm cultivation be reduced completely without erasing it completely. For its part, a general engineer in the capital’s secretariat, Fatima Al -Sheikh, stated that there are 11 types of trees in the afforestation tenders, and that the palm cultivation was recently stopped in the streets, except for the treatment in replacing a dead palm, where it is replaced with one with one New, as for new projects, palm trees are not cultivated. It confirmed that the current trend is to grow trees with a flower like Akassia and Indian jasmine, because it gives aesthetic to the public view, in addition to that it does not require maintenance much.
