The National Health Services Authority in England announced the approval of an innovative treatment for leukemia, named after Lacocaptagin, after obtaining the approval of the National Institute for Excellence in Health Care, and it is expected that this treatment will benefit hundreds of patients who suffer from large bacterium lymphoma, Adian type of leukemia.
Adopting an innovative treatment for leukemia patients
According to the Hindistan Times newspaper, the new treatment depends on the technique of the genetically modified T cells, as the T cells are extracted from the patient, then adjusted in the laboratory so that they are able to target and eliminate cancer cells, before returning them to the body in an individual treatment process .
Patients who have not responded to primary treatment or to whom the disease returned within 12 months, and clinical experiments have shown that treatment increases the duration of patients’ survival without exacerbation of the disease, compared to traditional treatments.
According to NICE, approximately 600 patients annually will benefit from this treatment and comment on the decision.
Helen Knight, director of drug evaluation at the authority, said: This treatment is a real glimmer of hope for patients and their families, that its benefits exceed the numbers, as it gives patients a precious time before the need for more treatments, and it can also be provided in outpatient clinics, which reduces the periods of staying in the hospital.
Cancer Research UK indicates that about 5,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with large bi -lymph nodes annually, making providing effective treatments it is very important.
Also, this accreditation for treatment comes four months after a preliminary recommendation from NICE by rejecting it due to its high cost, as it reached 297 thousand pounds for each patient
