Prince Harry Settles Lawsuit With U.K. Tabloids After Public Apology

The deal also comes almost one year after Harry scored a major victory against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) for alleged phone hacking that occurred over a 15-year span in the 1990s and 2000s. In February 2024, a settlement was reached between Harry and MGN would see the publisher covering his legal costs and damages as well as an interim payment of 400,000 pounds ($505,000).

Harry has previously spoken to how important an issue holding the tabloids responsible was to him—so much so that it even contributed to his rift with his family, including King Charles and Prince William, after what he perceives as his family’s unwillingness to join him in the fight.

“I think that’s certainly a central piece to it,” the dad of Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana—who he shares with wife Meghan Markle—told ITV’s Rebecca Barry as part of the network’s new documentary Tabloids on Trial last summer. “I’ve made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done, it would be nice if we did it as a family.”

He continued, “I believe that from a service standpoint and when you’re in a public role, these are the things that we should be doing for the greater good. I’m doing this for my reasons.”
