Danny Pintauro, the actor known for his roles in Who’s the Boss? and Cujo, has undergone emergency surgery following a scooter accident.

Pintauro posted a video to Instagram on Dec. 1 that included several shots of the actor looking bruised and bandaged in a hospital bed, intercut with a long note explaining what happened.

“I thought I would share an update with all of you,” Pintauro’s note begins. “On Thanksgiving night I got into a scooter accident. The bike lane I was riding in was suddenly blocked with cones and I was forced to choose between a van and a pylon. The pylons hurt!! Have a terrible scrape on my Arm and I was pretty convinced I had broken my arm. The next morning it was a whole lot better so l didn’t worry as much.”

Pintauro explained that it wasn’t until two days later that “started having these weird chest pains… the pain was so significant all across my chest and my stomach muscles and my shoulder muscles that I could barely breath. It was the [worst] moment of my life.”

Reps for Pintauro did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for comment.

Wil Tabares, Pintauro’s husband since 2014, “drove me to the hospital and after all kinds of tests, a CAT scan, an x-ray, and bloodwork, they discovered that I had an infection in my bloodstream due to a tear in my stomach lining – air and stomach acid were escaping into my abdomen.”

The actor described it as “the most excruciating pain l’ve ever felt in my whole life.”

After emergency surgery, Pintauro reported that the tear is fixed, “the pain is pretty much gone away,” but he remains intubated, unable to eat or drink anything for three days. “They always say this but it’s very true, if I had waited any longer, I could have died. My body was the one who told me something was absolutely wrong,” he said.

Pintauro’s first film role came when he was only seven, playing Tad Trenton in the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s Cujo. He was immediately cast among the core players on the sitcom Who’s The Boss?, leading to a nearly 200-episode run as Jonathan Bower, the son of Judith Light’s Angela Bower.

He left Hollywood in the 2010s to pursue other ventures unrelated to entertainment, but returned to the business in 2022, appearing in Lifetime’s A Country Christmas Harmony opposite Brooke Elliott and Brandon Quinn.
