Ben Stiller stars in SZA’s Drive music video

Ben Stiller gets behind the wheel and lip-syncs to SZA in the new music video for “Drive,” from the Grammy-winning artist’s newly-released deluxe edition of her album SOS, titled Lana.

The actor and director drives down a winding road during nightfall in the music video directed by Bradley J. Calder, expressively lip-syncing along to the soulful track before grinding to a halt and dancing along the empty highway.

SZA makes an appearance toward the end of the video, which transitions to “Crybaby.” She’s donned in bug-like prosthetics featured on the cover of the deluxe version. The long-awaited re-release, which dropped early Friday, features 15 new tracks, including one with Kendrick Lamar (“30 For 30”).

Though the Stiller linkup might come as a surprise, SZA is a noted superfan of the acclaimed Apple TV+ psychological thriller Severance, which the actor directs and executive produces. The duo tweeted at each other earlier this year, after SZA, using an expletive, demanded a new season of the show immediately.

After Stiller replied (“Ok ok got it”), a starstruck SZA asked him to “please accept my humble apology” and called Severance “the best show ever.” She also called Stiller a “mad man” and “king.” During an appearance on The Tonight Show with host Jimmy Fallon earlier this month, the host brought up the exchange and Stiller quipped, “Whatever SZA wants, SZA gets.”

The series starring Adam Scott returns for season 2 on Jan. 17, after a nearly three-year hiatus.

SZA is known to tap memorable guests for her music videos: Vivica A. Fox for “Kill Bill”; Drew Barrymore, aptly, for “Drew Barrymore”; and Justin Bieber, Young Mazino, Woody McClain, and Benny Blanco for “Snooze,” the latter of which she also co-directed with Calder.

The singer-songwriter is set to make her movie acting debut in the upcoming comedy One of Them Days, costarring alongside Keke Palmer. The two play best friends and roommates who must race against the clock to secure funds to avoid eviction, all while keeping their friendship intact. Katt Williams, Janelle James, and Maude Apatow also star in the comedy from director Lawrence Lamont and producer Issa Rae, in theaters Jan. 17.
