Atmospheric rivers lead to heat extremes

Atmospheric rivers are long, narrow bands of water vapour in the lower atmosphere that often lead to intense precipitation, even at the poles. They also transport heat and energy to the Earth’s surface, causing warmer winters and high-temperature extremes in many regions.
