2019: Obasanjo, Amosun Sue For Peaceful Polls, Unity Among Candidates
Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, have urged politicians to eschew politics of bitterness, towards a peaceful 2019 general elections.
Speaking at the 19th Ibogun-Olaogun Day celebration, Obasanjo enjoined them to always promote friendliness among their supporters and avoid hate speeches in their campaigns.
The former president, who had asked the gubernatorial candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Hon. Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade and that of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, to embrace each other at the event, said, “it is the will of God that matters in the choice of who becomes the governor.”
He advised the electorate to go about voting orderly, and charged the public to rally support for whosoever emerges the governor of the state.
He commended Amosun for speaking against electoral violence, describing him as his brother and a performing governor, who will remain dear to him forever, regardless of their differences in political alignment.
In his address, the governor called on politicians and their supporters, not to heat up the polity, noting that “in the final analysis, we are all working for the progress of Ogun State.
Stating that the 2018 edition of the annual festival is his last, as a sitting governor, he thanked the former president, who is an indigene of Ibogun, for consistently identifying with his root.
