Declare All Accounts, OGSG Warns Finance Directors

Ogun State government has directed all Directors of Finance and Accounts (DFAs), Bursars and Accountants of government’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies, to declare all accounts in their custody, as well as the balances in those accounts, with a call on them to uphold the ethics of their profession to enable the new administration deliver on its mandate.

The directive was given by the Accountant General/Permanent Secretary, State Treasury Office, Mr. Michael Olubunmi Idowu, during a meeting with Directors of Accounts in all government agencies, held at the Conference Room, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.

The Accountant General who noted that the meeting was a follow up of parley of the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun with Managing Directors of banks managing State’s government accounts of any form, warned the financial institutions to comply with the directives, saying failure to declare such accounts would be sanctioned.

“Banks that fail to declare any bank accounts in their custody shall receive serious sanctions. All Agencies’ accounts must be disclosed and bank statements submitted to the Ministry of Finance on or before Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Moreover, all government’s accounts are now placed on embargo and shall only be lifted after the approval of the Governor’’, Idowu said.

He charged the account Officers to work diligently and  cooperate with the present administration by increasing their revenue generation monitoring, to ensure prompt payment of salaries and other emoluments, as assured by Governor Abiodun, ‘’ with or without Federation Allocation Account Committee’’.

Contributing, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr. Segun Olaleye, said the Ministry would not shy away from its responsibility of revenue collection and monitoring, saying all revenue collected by agencies should be checked at the nearest Treasury Cash Office within 7 days.

He charged that all returns and revenue must be sent and declared in totality by the State’s Account Department, to the Ministry of Finance, enjoining that existing revenue should not go down, rather, be maintained or geared-up, with introduction of new ideas on revenue generation, in order to meet the set target.
